The best scale RC helicopters under £1,000 (2026)

You don't need to spend four figures for a genuine scale helicopter. Here are the best ready-to-fly scale ships under £1,000 — from £449 Flywings to Roban's 450-class RTF range.

Scale RC helicopters have a reputation for being expensive, and at the top end they are — a big Roban ARF or a FLISHRC FL500 V2 runs well over £1,500. But you do not need to spend four figures to get a convincing, ready-to-fly scale machine. Under £1,000 there are two brands worth your money: Flywing at the affordable end, and Roban's smaller RTF range just below the £1,000 line.

Every helicopter here is ready to fly with GPS-assisted stabilisation, and every one is a real scale aircraft rather than a toy. Here are the picks.

Best value overall: Flywing BO-105

The Flywing BO-105 is the one we recommend most often under £1,000. It's a genuine scale air-rescue ship with GPS stabilisation, ready to fly, and it starts at around £449 for the grey RTR — rising to about £730 for the top RTR trim. Nothing else at this price looks this much like a real helicopter and flies this forgivingly. Our full Flywing BO-105 review has the detail.

Best cheapest way in: Flywing at £449

If the only thing standing between you and scale flying is budget, the Flywing BO-105 Grey RTR at around £449 is the cheapest genuine scale helicopter we stock. It is the entry point, full stop.

Best classic shapes: Flywing Huey and Bell 206

For unmistakable silhouettes, the Flywing Huey V4 (around £599, the Vietnam-era UH-1) and the Flywing Bell 206 (around £649, the civilian JetRanger) are hard to beat. Both are ready to fly with the same stabilised electronics.

Best for a faster flyer: Flywing FW450L-V3

Not everyone wants slow scale profiles. The Flywing FW450L-V3 (around £589) is a 450-size sport machine for pilots who want quicker, more aerobatic circuits — a useful stepping stone toward full collective-pitch flying.

Best step up in quality: Roban 450/470 RTF

If you want a more serious airframe and can stretch toward the top of the budget, Roban's 450 and 470-size RTF range brings genuine Roban scale-airframe quality in a ready-to-fly package:

The Roban range guide explains where these sit against the bigger ARF kits.

Which should you buy?

  • Cheapest genuine scale ship: Flywing BO-105 Grey, ~£449
  • Best all-round under £1,000: Flywing BO-105 (any trim)
  • Best airframe quality near the limit: a Roban 450/470 RTF
  • Fastest, most sporty: Flywing FW450L-V3

A quick reality check: these are real helicopters, so you'll want to be able to hover and land a smaller machine first. If you're brand new, start on our best under £150 shortlist and learn your first hover. When you're ready to go bigger, the scale buyer's guide and Roban vs FLISHRC map out the premium end.
